What is the Most Important Thing?   Christ, the sinless Son of God, died on the cross.  The Bible says, “But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).  But why did Jesus die?
The reason Christ died was for sin.  The Bible says, “For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous (Jesus) for the unrighteous (us), that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18a).  All of us have sinned (Romans 3:23).
The outcome of sin is death.  The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).  Wages are what we earn and death is what we deserve.  Death is separation from God and all that is good, for eternity.
Jesus was our substitute on the cross.  The Bible says, “He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Jesus took the judgment for our sin upon himself.  Jesus offers what he has done as a free gift.
Because Jesus is our substitute, He is the only one who can bring salvation.  For salvation you must repent of (turn from) sin.  The Bible says, “Repent and turn back, that your sins may be wiped out” (Acts 3:19a).  For salvation, you must also believe on Jesus and receive Him into your life.  The Bible says, “To all who did receive Him, He gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12).
